Pairing Logitech Unifying receiver and devices on Linux

I just got a free Logitech mouse that uses Unifying receiver. Wow, this idea is brilliant: one receiver for multiple input devices.

However, you need to pair the device(s) with the receiver first - but only once. Logitech's pairing software only works on Windows and Mac.
